“Do this your own way”
-Inge Neuhold
(my Mom)
“Do this your own way” are the last words I heard from my mom as she passed from covid complications. I think she was trying to encourage me to handle her passing and my life in my own way, free of guilt or shame no matter how “unique” or different it is from family & friends. Since her passing those 5 words regularly bubble up inside me. Though they’re simple, they’ve really gotten me to reflect on how I’d been sidetracked with striving for “sophistication” instead of being fully myself. My sketchbooks have always been a bit of a hiding place for me. But the time feels right to (nervously) share this part of my portfolio in honor of my gorgeous mama, who from the afterlife is giving me encouragement to allow the un-pretty, un-sophisticated, truest, parts of myself show.
